Hi! My name is Cindy, and I’m a freelance artist/illustrator/designer. Holey Ceiling Studio is my small business selling art, stationery, and paper ephemera. I design products that I would want to buy: off-kilter, yet elegant and high-quality. Everything is drawn and designed in my tiny 300sq ft studio apartment here in NYC. All the illustrations on my products are painted traditionally with mediums like acrylic, watercolor, and ink. I generally work with printers and manufacturers  to help bring my products to life, but the prints I sell are printed by myself in my studio.

Like many people, I'm tired of staring at screens constantly, so I wanted to start a venture where I could make objects that are more tactile. I’ve always had an affinity for printed objects, and to this day I still prefer writing notes and drawing on paper versus on a screen. With Holey Ceiling Studio, I want to provide an antidote to a world filled with digital slop and to insist on the value of human-made ideas.

Fun fact about the name: originally I wanted to name my business "Cindy's 300sqft Studio", but it turns out I couldn't register it as a business because "Cindy" is not technically my legal name. So I pivoted to "Holey Ceiling Studio", because I wasn't able to think of anything else but also because my studio tends to have a yearly ceiling leak.

I live here with my little void cat Grapes. He's a very good boy, so he doesn't mess with any of the many pieces of paper I have laying around.
